Adopting a plant-forward approach, reducing meat consumption, and ensuring access to nutritious food are key pillars in promoting sustainable and healthy eating habits. According to the FAO, livestock production accounts for approximately 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to climate change. Additionally, around 2 billion people worldwide suffer from malnutrition, while 1.9 billion adults are overweight or obese.

But it’s not necessarily about completely cutting intake of animal protein, it’s about making more informed and responsible choices when we eat meat. Joining us from Animals Aotearoa and Planet For All, Marianne Macdonald and Wendy Chan will give us the latest updates on better meat and cage-free eggs in the region.

So what are the options when it comes to substituting meat? We will hear from our Member KARANA who creates plant-based meat using ingredients that support biodiversity, and healthy soil, are good for farmers, and can be crafted into the most delicious dishes across any cuisine such as jackfruit!
